Our New Way of Doing Maths

Room 1 and 2 are trying a new way of Maths that the teachers learnt about on a course in the holidays.  The schools using this method are getting some good results.  In Room 2 we have been learning about skip counting and this week we are reviewing dice patterns and tens frames and being able to recognise these instantly.
Each day we also have a daily problem. Here is today's problem and how some people chose to solve it.

Jenny and Eden drew 4 children and each                 James and Lexi R used yellow counters for the
person had 2 moosies and they counted                     people and pink counters for the strawberry
them all up.                                                                 moosies.  They skip counted  2, 4, 6, 8 to get                                                                                           their answer

Larisha and Isabel used the threading beads.                                                   They got  4 threaders and put 2 beans on each
                                           threader and skip counted  2, 4, 6, 8.

Kade and Hayley used the playdough.
The big circles were the people and the little
ones were the moosies.  They counted all the
little balls to get their answer.
