More Symmetry

We have been doing lots of symmetry activities - sorting magnetic letters, drawing in the other part of the picture, symmetry with geoboards and on pegboards and finding lines of symmetry.

Symmetry

This week we are learning about symmetry. We talked about what symmetry is and, in pairs, we had to find one thing in our class that was symmetrical and one that wasn't symmetrical.  We talked about the line of symmetry.

We also used paint to do some symmetrical blob pictures and played a game on topmarks on the interactive white board.  Here is the link - Topmarks Symmetry.  You might like to play some of these games at home.

Princesses and Princes

This week our blend is pr.  We are dressing up as princes and princesses and building a castle for them to live. Don't we look beautiful?

Room 2 Scientists

This term the whole school is studying Science in preparation for the Dannevirke Junior Science Fair to be held on the 16th October 2015. 
Today we talked about, "What A Scientist Does?" and put everyone's ideas on a chart. Then we looked at  a Brainpop junior clip about doing a Science Investigation.  It talked about making good questions, making a hypothesis, doing the experiment, the data /results and the conclusion.
After that we did an experiment with milk, food colouring and detergent.  If you would like to have a go at home go to:

Here are some photos showing what happened.








First of all we put some milk into a dish. Then we put some drops of food colouring in. Next we put some dish washing detergent on a cotton bud and held it onto the middle of the milk.

We did the experiment again and this time we put the detergent down the side of the bowl.  This is what happened:

Winter Warmers Update

Nikki from the library came to school today to check our booklets.  Quite a lot more  children got their prize for five check-ins - they all got a New Zealand pack of cards. Four people had completed their whole booklet and they each got a neat little pen with New Zealand birds on it.  The pens were on a rope to put around your neck.

A Musical Treat

On the last day of term music students from the High School put on a performance for us. There were lots of ex South School pupils performing.  What a lot of talented students!  We learnt about some new instruments and one of the boys evenplayed a didjerido.

Team 4's Wearable Art

This term Team 4 has been working on their Wearable Art.  We were lucky enough to be asked to their dress rehearsal on the last Wednesday of the term.  Ronya, Mya and Teara all had brothers in the show! It was fantastic and they and their teachers had put so much work into it.
