Discovery Day Today

Look at all the things that we got up to on Discovery day!

Jade's T-shirt

This week we have been reading the big book called T-Shirts .  Yesterday we made our own t-shirts and wrote a story about them.  Jade brought her favourite t-shirt to school to show us.  It had a beautiful butterfly on it.

Mrs. Murphy's Challenge

Mrs. Murphy made a comment on our blog and asked if we could write our numbers backwards as well as forwards.  Lots of us found this a bit harder but we still had some Super Stars who did a pretty good job  - some counting back from 10 and some counting back from 20.

Sticker Chart Stars

In Room 2 we have individual sticker charts and we get rewarded when we are doing what we are meant to be doing or for doing something special..  Jennifer finished her sticker chart last week and Zarlia finished hers today.  When we fill our chart we get to choose from Mrs. Bone's black bag. Here are the girls with their prizes.

Today we had our first Discovery Day for this year.  We could choose what to do out of lots of different choices.

We also had three children from Team 4 who helped James, Kade and Paige to make a big plane using the imaginex.

Assembly This Week

Jesse was on Aim High today.  Mr.  Snell also got him up the front because Jesse was so kind and helpful when we had  some visitors come and look around our school.

Today's Assemblies

This term Team One and Two are having their weekly Team Assembly together.  Today we welcomed all the new people to South School.

Our Team Certificates were for Settling Into School.  Well done to Alex and Jesse who got certificates this week.

At our School Assembly Mr. Snell had a powerpoint showing children who had helped new people settle into our school. Last year we had Aim High and this year we are recognising people who are showing our school values.  Hayley was on the powerpoint because she has been very caring and has helped Ali settle into our school.

Team 1's Visit To The Town Library

Today we walked down to the Town Library.  Nikki, the Children's Librarian, read us a story and then those people with Library cards were able to get a book out.  Today we had 16 children with library cards, which was absolutely fantastic.  Thanks to those parents who went to the library and joined their children up this week.  Our next visit to the Town Library is on the 4th March.

Learning Through Play

Each day this week we have been learning through play.  This fits in really well with the key competencies - participating and contributing, managing self, thinking, using language, symbols and texts and relating to others. Here are some photos of what we have been doing:

Our Class Treaty

Yesterday we talked about what we can do to make our class a better place.  Mrs. Bone printed out our ideas and today we painted one of our hands and put our handprint around the treaty.  Our Treaty is hanging up in our room.

Maths

For the next 2 weeks in Maths we are learning about shape.  On Monday we played a game with the shapes outside and then we took photos in our class and around the school of lots of shapes that we saw.

Yesterday we sorted a tray of shapes by colour and today we sorted shapes by their shape.  Then someone suggested that we put the shapes that fit together in a ring- we had talked about shapes that tessellate yesterday so we did this too.

Jennifer went to the Pongaroa Sports.  She brought her red ribbon and certificates to show us.  What a clever girl!

She wrote a story about her success.  Here it is for you to read:

We went to the horse sports.  I came first.  I won a certificate.  Also I can't believe it.  I love to go to the horse sports.
