Mouldy Bread Experiment

Today was day 11 of our science Experiment.  We wondered which bread would go mouldy first. The first two bags had a piece of bread that we had all passed around when we had dirty hands.

The next ones had bread that had been passed around after we had washed our hands.
The last one was the control and only Mrs. Bone touched thes bits of bread with clean hands.

Mufti Day

Today was Daffodil Day.  Two councillors, Sean and Sharti, organised a mufti day.  We had to wear bright colours and bring a gold coin.  Room 2 raised $22.00 and the school raised over $300.00.  All the money raised will go to the Cancer Society and will be used in our local area.
Here is a photo of us in our bright colours:

Science Today

We did two experiments today.  The first was What Happens When We Put A  Jar Over A Lit Candle In  Water?

Our second experiment is with bread.  We had six bags - 2 are the control, 2 are bread that clean hands had touched and the other 2 were passed around before people washed their hands. We wonder which bags will go mouldy first?

Doubles

This week in Maths we are learning about Doubles.  Today we used our bodies to talk about doubles.

Double 1 is 2
1+1 =2
We each have 2 eyes.
Double 2 is 4
2 + 2 = 4

.
Each hand has 5 fingers
Double 5 is 10.
5+5 =10

Each foot has 10 toes.
Double 10 is 20.
10 + 10 = 20

Science Today

We invited Room 1 in to do some Science today.
First of all we read a great story about Mad Margaret's Experiments In The Scientific Method.
Then we used these ideas for our own experiment with the balloon on a skewer.  Mrs. Bone asked us if we thought we could put the skewer through the balloon.

Most people thought we couldn't.  Then she showed us the photo with the skewer going through the balloon.  In pairs we came up with our hypothesis about how to put the skewer in without it popping.

We had lots of different ideas to try.  Some groups said to put the skewer in sideways, some said to put it through the top and others said just to be gentle.  We tried out every group's hypothesis.
