Winter Warmers

This year we are again involved with The Winter Warmers Programme run by the Tararua District Library.
All the children have their own booklet.  Each day Mrs. Bone reads a story and we do an activity about the book.  We might write what we learnt from the book, draw the main character, draw a new cover or our favourite part of the story.  Nikki from the town library comes to school every Wednesday to check our booklets.  We get a sticker for each page we do in our booklet. If we do 5 pages then we get a prize and we can also earn a new book.

Aim High Today

Teara got 16 more words than last time in Fast Words and had the biggest improvement of anyone in our Fast Words last week. She has also made pleasing progress with her story writing and reading too.
Here is her ipad story from Wednesday:

The other Aiming High Children were all there because of their great homework.

Pattern Discovery Day

Today we had a Pattern Discovery Day.  In Room 1 we decorated biscuits, made Elmers, made necklaces and snakes.  In Room 2 we could make funky glasses, headbands, sponge paint a number or flower pattern  as well as copy the patterns from the task cards onto the pegboards, threaders, interlocking cubes and teddy bears.  In Room 3 we could make straw necklaces, a woolly hat, a Yin Yang Globe and checkered heart pictures. In Room 4 we could make a fruit kebab pattern, a Stegosaurus pattern, a Snowflake pattern or Patterns on leaves.

Patterns

For the last two weeks of term we are learning about patterns. We will be learning to:

  • describe a pattern
  • continue a pattern
  • create a pattern.
On Monday we went for a walk to find patterns around our school and in our class.  We.
found lots of patterns.

Mrs. Bone suggested that we could see if we could find  some patterns at our home. What a great job Room 2 children did.  We had photos, emails and child drawn pictures showing patterns we had found at home.

Today we had lots of different activities.  At each activity we had to make a pattern.  Here is a picture of what we did:

Life Education Classroom

Today we had our first visit to the Life Education Classroom with Kirsty.

We met Harold the Giraffe and talked about how we are all unique -there is only one you! We also talked about making friends and saw a video.   Kirsty talked to us about empathy.

We also talked about all the things that our body needs to be healthy.

We have three key/big questions that we will try and answer.

Here are some stories from today:
