ANZAC At Dannevirke South School

This year the School Councillors organised a special service for ANZAC Day.  All the parents were invited.  We also had some other special guests - Mr. Ellis, the Mayor of Tararua, Mr. Olsen, who went to World War 2 and Jack Dalgleish's Dad, who is a  Major in the Army.

Maths This Week

We have been talking about time this week.  First of all we talked about what we do in our school day.

Then we talked about what we do when we get up and put in order some things in our day.   Then we looked at clocks and hour time.  We made a big clock outside using numbers and a long and short skipping rope.

We did lots of other time activities.

Grasshopper Tennis

Today we had Grasshopper Tennis with Oscar.  

 

First of all Oscar taught us how to hold the racket with the v position.

Then we did some other activities such as rolling the ball around our racket, bouncing the ball and hitting it. We really enjoyed tennis and we                                     are looking forward to                                       next week.

   

 

ANZAC Day

This week we have been talking about ANZAC. 
We are reading the big book The Dawn Parade and came up with some questions we would like to answer. 
 We are also making poppies and on Friday the whole school is having a special ANZAC Ceremony which all parents are invited to. We are learning this song to sing.

 

Netball Skills Programme

This afternoon we had some visitors that came to teach us some netball skills. We practised the candy cane position for shooting goals and we had a game.  We had lots of fun.

Maths For The Last Two Weeks Of Term

For the last 2 weeks of the term we have been studying Statistics during maths time.

First of all we made a graph about our favourite colours.  

 Then we made a graph about our Fruit Snacks to see what type of fruit was the most popular.

Then we  watched Sunshine Online: Near and Far and we made a pictogram of how we got to school.      

Today we made our own pictogr.am with the Primary Technology Free online Pictogram creator.  It was about  Our Favourite Sport. Netball was the most popular sport with 7 people voting for it..

Then we made a birthday graph to find out which month was the most popular month for birthdays.

Then we looked at a youtube clip about tally marks.

We made a tally graph of the birthday graph that we did yesterday.

 We are going to tell our parents and families at home about tally marks when we get home.

Easter Cooking

This week in Room 2 we have been studying the ch digraph.  Today we made chickens for Easter.
