The Temporary Boiler Arrives

On Friday the 30th of May the temporary boiler arrived.  It was in a big blue container.  We went out to watch the boiler being unloaded.

Discovery Day With A Royal Theme

Since it was Queen's Birthday weekend our Discovery Day had a Royal Theme. We stayed in our own classes and made crowns, royal bunting and flags. Each class also made some food.  Room 1 iced cupcakes, Room 2 made kebabs, Room 3 made cucumber sandwiches and Room 4 iced biscuits.  Then we went outside to see a special visitor. It was the Queen.  She was wearing a beautiful, blue dress.

What a surprise we got to see the Queen come in her big,
 Black chauffeur driven car.

We followed her inside.  We performed our waiata for the Queen and then we gave her some flowers, a present and of course a birthday cake.  She had a cup of tea in her special china tea cup that Mrs. Bone brought from home.

Here is Deakan's story:
I saw the Queen and I liked the Queen.  She had a beautiful smile and she had a beautiful dress.

Matua Tamai Comes to Visit Team One

As part of our inquiry unit on Maori Technology and more specifically Maori Musical Instruments, Matua Tamai came to school.  First of all Matua Tamai spoke and then Mr. Snell. Then the teachers all  hongied. We said our karakia and sang our waiata.  Then Matua showed us all the musical instruments that he had brought to show us.  He played them and let us all play them too.  We made some really funny sounds. When we went back to class we all made our own musical instrument out of white clay.

Time and Temperature Discovery Day

On Friday the 16th of May we had another Discovery Day.  The theme was Time and Temperature so we did activities.  In Room 2 we dressed up for summer and winter, used the IWB to do day and night activities  as well as playing lots of time games.  Can you see Mr. Snell i his dress ups??!

Buddy Reading With Room 16

Room 16 is our Buddy Class.  Sometimes we do Buddy Reading together.  On the 16th of May we read in the School Library. We really enjoyed reading to each other.

Our Special Visitor to Dannevirke South School

Ronald Macdonald came to South School on the 16th of May.  He had a huge book that he read to us.  We had to help him find his lost sock.  Mrs. Bone met him at the gate and helped him to tell the story.  We also sang the song about safety belts. Eveyone loved his visit and some people even went to Macdonalds the next day to see him do his magical tricks!

Illustrators

As part of our library programme we have been studying illustrators.  Our big book this week was illustrated by Raymond McGrath.  That means he drew the pictures.
One of Mrs. Bone's favourite illustrators is Gavin Bishop.  He is a New Zealand illustrator.  We found some books in the library that he had illustrated.

We are all illustrators in Room 2 when we draw the pictures for our published stories.

Time and the I-pads

For Maths this term we have been studying time and temperature. We made a clock outside using digit labels and a long and a short rope.

On Wednesday we had the i-pads and we showed o'clock times on the i-pads.

We also played lots of time games.
